Role Description
REMSA, Inc. is seeking a qualified Protected Species Observer to support nearshore pile driving activities at Sparrows Point, located in Baltimore, MD. This contract-based, on-site role involves observing and documenting marine life in accordance with environmental regulations and ensuring compliance with all construction-related mitigation measures. The Protected Species Observer will work closely with project teams to monitor potential impacts on protected species and implement response protocols as necessary.
Qualifications
• Knowledge of protected marine species identification and behavior.
• Experience in environmental monitoring and compliance during marine construction activities.
• Ability to collect, record, and report data accurately in the field.
• Strong observational, attention-to-detail, and communication skills.
• Understanding of environmental regulations and marine conservation guidelines.
• Physical ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in marine biology, environmental science, or a related field is preferred.
• Ability to work full days on-site with flexibility for varying schedules.
• Current certifications in marine mammal observation or related qualifications are advantageous.
• Must show experience on resume of pile driving activities and must have NMFS certification depicting pile driving experience.
