Director of Special Systems

The HT Group is parterning with a leading commercial electrical contractor to hire a Director of Special Systems to lead operations, project execution, and team leadership for its Austin-based Special Systems division. This individual will oversee a team of Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, and field personnel while driving the successful delivery of large-scale low-voltage, security, and integrated building technology projects across commercial, healthcare, mission-critical, and advanced infrastructure environments. This is a highly visible leadership role focused on operational excellence, customer relationships, project profitability, and team development. Austin TX (78247) | $130-150k + up to 50% bonus | Direct Hire Key Responsibilities • Lead operations and project delivery for commercial and mission-critical special systems projects across the Austin market • Oversee installation and service projects involving: • Structured cabling and fiber infrastructure • Physical security and access control systems • CCTV/video surveillance • Audio/visual and communications systems • Smart building and integrated technology systems • Manage and mentor a team of PMs, APMs, and field operations personnel • Oversee multiple concurrent projects from preconstruction through closeout • Drive project execution, scheduling, labor planning, forecasting, and overall profitability • Build and maintain strong customer, contractor, and subcontractor relationships • Support estimating, bid reviews, contract negotiations, and operational planning • Coordinate closely with customers, vendors, field teams, and construction partners to ensure successful execution • Ensure projects meet safety, quality, budget, and scheduling expectations • Help strengthen operational processes, accountability, and overall division performance Qualifications / Background • Experience leading operations or project delivery teams within low-voltage construction, security integratio, electrical/special systems, building technologies, or structured cabling/data infrastructure environments • Proven success managing multiple Project Managers and multimillion-dollar commercial projects • Strong leadership experience with direct management responsibility over teams of 5+ employees • Demonstrated operational, financial, and customer-facing leadership skills • Experience with project financials, forecasting, estimating, and contract/project negotiations • Ability to lead both office and field operations in fast-paced construction environments • BICSI and/or RCDD certifications preferred
