Tree Boston is seeking a passionate, motivated, and creative individual committed to environmental justice and tree equity as its Director of Programs (DP). The DP will direct, manage, and oversee the organization’s education and tree planting programs. As a member of the Leadership Team, the DP will report directly to the Executive Director and will supervise program directors in Tree Planting and Education. Job responsibilities include overseeing the daily operations of programs, establishing and capturing metrics for program assessment on a monthly basis, improving and adjusting current programs, developing new programs, facilitating collaboration across the organization, and ensuring programs and projects are on schedule and on budget. In addition, they will support efforts to seek opportunities and partnerships for programs through ongoing collaboration with the city, community groups, residents, and local community-based organizations. Essential Functions: • Oversee the daily operations of all programs of the tree and education teams. • Manage all education and tree events, from scheduling to planning and execution to reporting and assessment. • Develop tools and metrics to measure and assess projects. • Manage and work closely with education and tree care program directors, staff, and interns. • Work closely with program staff, Director of Finance, and Director of Community Engagement and Outreach to prepare and track project budgets and schedules to ensure that projects are on time, on budget, and meeting all grant requirements; Budgets for program areas run from $80,000 to $200,000, with individual project budgets running from $25,000 to $100,000. • In collaboration with program staff and leadership team, lead on identifying tasks and functions assumed by volunteers and manage volunteers at all program-related events. • Assist with communication and outreach around program-related events. Requirements: • 3-5 years of relevant experience managing programs and staff. • Knowledge or experience around issues of environmental justice, tree equity, urban forestry, and/or urban ecology. • Experience or education in the fields of environmental science, arboriculture, and/or nonprofit management. • Past work or lived experience in Boston preferred but not required. Skills: • Strong project and team management skills. • Commitment to tree equity and environmental justice. • Organized and attentive to detail. • Ability to take initiative and be a self-starter. • Experience in Google Workspace and Asana project management or similar platforms. • Preference for language proficiency in one or more non-English languages spoken in Boston. Compensation: • Salary: $80,000-$95,000/year • Benefits: -Retirement matching on SIMPLE IRA and 75% employer payment of health/dental -15 days paid time off per year + sick leave + generous holiday schedule The position is currently hybrid: the Director of Programs is to work from the office 3 days per week and remotely 2 days per week.
